    Description

       Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) is a heterocyclic compound. It belongs to auxin, an important plant hormone. This colorless solid is probably the most important auxin. It is a derivative of indole, which is a substance obtained by adding carboxymethyl to indole ring.

     

    Production Methods

     

    1. It is obtained by the reaction of indole with glycolic acid. In a 3L stainless steel autoclave, add 270g (4.1mol) 85% in potassium hydroxide, 351g (3mol) indole, and then slowly add 360g (3.3mol) 70% aqueous solution of hydroxyacetic acid. Heat to 250 ℃ and stir for 18h. Cool to below 50 ℃, add 500ml of water, and stir at 100 ℃ for 30min to dissolve potassium indole 3-acetate. Cool to 25 ℃, pour the autoclave material into water, and add water to the total volume of 3L. Extract with 500ml ether, separate water layer, acidify with hydrochloric acid at 20-30 ℃, and precipitate indole-3-acetic acid. Filter, wash in cold water, dry in dark, and obtain 455-490g of the product.
    2. The reaction of indole and glycolic acid can be carried out by filtration, cold water washing and drying.

    Function

      Used as plant growth stimulant and analytical reagent. 3-indoleacetic acid, 3-indoleacetaldehyde, 3-indoleacetonitrile, ascorbic acid and other auxin exist naturally in nature. Tryptophan is the precursor of 3-indoleacetic acid biosynthesis in plants. The basic function of auxin is to regulate plant growth. It can not only promote growth, but also inhibit growth and organ building. In plant cells, auxin not only exists in a free state, but also exists in bound auxin which can be firmly combined with biopolymers, and auxin which forms a combination with special substances, such as indoleacetyl asparagine, pentose indoleacetate and indoleacetylglucose. This may be a storage way of auxin in cells, and it is also an detoxification way to eliminate the toxicity of excessive auxin.
